About the event
On Sunday, 3rd July we were treated to a wonderfully entertaining afternoon with Bruce and Caroline Graham, accompanied by William Godfree. There was something for everyone in the great mixture of songs, snippets of text and amusing anecdotes not to mention humorous quotes from the press!
It was very interesting to hear about Bruce and Caroline’s experiences as part of the D’Oyly Carte Company, where they met, and they covered a rich selection of songs from the pens of Gilbert and Sullivan as well as others. Of particular note was Bruce’s rendition of “The air is charged with amatory numbers” from The Sorcerer, a piece he reprieved to such good effect at theTogether Again concert featuring former D’Oyly Carte members, a highlight at this year’s Gilbert and Sullivan Festival in Harrogate.
The concert ended with some enthusiastic audience participation and we all went home with “When a felon’s not engaged” from The Pirates of Penzance as an ear worm. This concert will long be remembered as a most enjoyable and popular event.
